I’m not really going to post much here. I just want you to follow this link and read through it ALL!!! Don’t worry – it includes graphics.

What I like is that this is thorough. It’s not filled with meaningless platitudes or drivel.
• Name it for what it is
• Document Everything
• Stand up by calling the bully out
• Expect retaliation! (Yes – it’s predicted to occur)
• Enlist Support
• Keep at it!
• Consider your options (legal action if necessary)
Yes, yes yes! This is the first time I’ve read a post about workplace bullying, other than my own, that discusses retaliation. Retaliation is predicted to occur. Plan for it to occur. This is what documentation does. It documents the retaliation – which is illegal in the workplace.
We should all be taking bullying seriously. If you are a leader and want to understand what you need to do to get it to stop so that your employees treat each other with the respect they all deserve, take one of my online courses on bullying and harassment. I discuss the science of what is happening and what exactly has to happen to make this behavior stop. (Hint – it involves applied behavioral psychology).
Flying by the seat of your pants and hoping for the best is not a good way to get counterproductive workplace behaviors to stop. Learn what does work and become a better manger. PLEASE! Your employees will thank you.

As always, you have identified the "Elephant in the Room"! Not expecting retaliation is like not expecting to get sunburned when you spend hours at the beach, midday, in the summer! Documenting is like using sunscreen. It minimizes the damage!
